Have you ever had some open space in your thinking during the day? When odd thoughts come flooding in and you start pondering them? Random...sometimes rhetorical in nature? I was spending some time with a few family members about a week ago. We went on a nice walk in the sunshine down to Agate beach. Not the tourist area, mind you, but a place where some locals go that know about it. Its where a group of surfers go to catch the waves away from the mainstreamers.
We walked down a hidden pathway down to the beachside and trailed along the waters line in the sun. I was feeling pretty good breathing in the sweet cool salty air as it had been a while since my last beach excursion. The sun was bouncing off the water, glistening, sparkling as it swept in and out with the tide flows.
Then I sat down on a large piece of driftwood that had a flat spot on top like a seat- that was washed up on the sand just for me. Yep, just for me...that's how I look at things. It keeps my life awesome and happy :)
Auri started to throw rocks in the water...one by one she would find a little larger one. I think she was aiming to create a bigger splash. But there is something more to this for a person, I feel ~
Her father was watching her and began to compliment her "throwing arm". You see he is a big baseball fan and has an amazing talent with playing the sport himself. This in turn encouraged Auri to really get into her form.
One by one, the adults got into picking up large and small stones to hurl them as far as they could in the water. As I was watching, I started to ponder why it was so fun...possibly stress liberating to throw rocks in the water. Most of us have done it. And when you are done, you always feel relaxed, happier and even more peaceful.
I believe first, being around water is soothing. Its where many people migrate when they need a break from life. Throwing rocks is kind of therapeutic. It exhausts excess energy that can sometimes come out of our bodies as stress. That's a negative-stress. Water-fresh air-motion of thrusting objects in a fun context can turn your negative into a positive feeling. Hearing the splash and watching the water dance; challenging yourself and using your creativeness-what can be more simply entertaining??
Yes, you are right....finding the right rock for skipping!! That is an art within itself~
All of this that I have spoken of, seems pretty insignificant, right?
So I ask you, take some time, go out and find a lake a river, the sea or even a 'crick' ( creek) and spend some time throwing or skipping some rocks.....then get back to me so I can say "I told you so!!!" ;) It really brings you back to earth and makes you smile!!!!! There is nothing better than finding the simple and fun things in life and applying them to yours!
As for me, until I get back out and about:
Being busy the last couple months, plus being sick (hasn't slowed me down much) has been like when your mind is going a million miles an hour with all that needs to be done- the central "task-master" center of your inner universe...but your body is sluggish and begging for you to set up camp under the sheets of your bed and turn the world off for a few days. Its a real intense conversation I have with myself "inside my brain"! In the end, my body takes over and I concede to the bedroom and the 6 fluffy white pillows and my soft furry owl blanket and turn myself off.
I have been fighting a respiratory illness that checked into my body and loves it so much, it just wants to set up house! There is a lot of nastiness going around out there and I was one of the unlucky. Life..it goes on and I'm a health fighter :) -Go me! hehe
~Peace out and take your vitamin C and zinc!!
