Portland, Oregon in the Holiday Seasons

While sitting behind a computer part of the day, working, getting eye strain and wanting to be finished...my mind wandered to the stormy weather we have been having. Thunder and lightning... with bouts of sunshine peeking through the clouds and downpours.
It used to be a tradition with my younger boys when we lived near Tigard, Oregon.. while I worked and attended college; to drop everything and have a fun adventure day in Portland during the Autumn season. We would park in the Beaverton area near the main Light rail terminal and jump aboard for some spontaneous fun. We would sometimes "surf ride" in the isle or stand in the connecting part of the cars for a 'twistier' ride. You learn to make your own fun with simple things~ My son Jess learned and mimicked the announcements on the overhead...including the Spanish parts!
Sometimes we would get off in the tunnels and go hit the Zoo for a couple hours, then back on the Rail to find fun in Pioneer square. A lot of the times they will have canopies set up with some kind of event going on. We would make our way to the Pioneer mall after hitting the ice cream parlor ( or the specialty candy store...depending on the mood). Around that time the city would have decorated their tree lined streets with tiny white lights...such a warm  magical ambiance it would bring.
We always, hit the Light rail and meandered to the Chinese district so I could stock up on oriental soaps, sticks, and trinkets for the kids. The shop owners were so entertaining to converse with.
Back on the rail, as we headed to the Lloyd center Mall. Three stories of shops and a nice ice skating rink in the middle. I tried once to skate-it didn't turn out well. But at least I tried! My boys favorite store at that time was the Halloween Costume shop. My family is full of goofballs, including me. So I will leave it to your imagination how that went! Ha..yes...pretty much!!!!
When we tired of that, we would head back to the Burnside bridge and Riverwalk area to eat at Kell's Irish Pub. ( Kids ate there during day hours) Best Irish food around. The ceiling was plastered with quarters wrapped in paper money. The servers would take the donations ( to be given to the children's hospital....whoop and holler and throw it at the ceiling and it would "magically" stick. A fun way to help others. After a long day..and it was usually dusk by then..all the lights in the streets would sparkle and tell us it was time to return home.
We would ride the Rail home quietly reflecting on the good time we just shared. Before I drove home, I would jump into Trader Joes, next to where we parked, and bought a few items to bring back for snacking later on. My boys would usually pass out on the way home. I would build a fire in the wood fireplace and we would watch a scary or comedy movie on tv until their bedtime.
My grown kids have great memories of our spontaneous adventures while I was a single mother. Life was very hard for me those days. But I made sure they had home cooked meals, hugs, smiles, a safe place to fall when they needed it, a good roof over their heads and plenty of laughter and adventures.
That's important in life, no matter what crap is handed to you..
You just need to step back out of the roughness and find ways to keep smiling and create fun moments to break up the same old stuff you deal with every day. Being positive can turn things around. You need to persevere to find your happy flow.

Portland Union Train Station. Took off from here many times for other adventures and travels. I love my trains!

The Pittock Mansion, Portland. I never got the chance, all the years living near, to go visit and hit the trails around there. It is definitely on my list of to-do! Maybe this Fall???!!!... Hmmmmm

HOLIDAY SEASON IS BLOWING..The Fires Out!

Oh my word...Autumn is right around the corner...and so are the Holiday's. Where did our summer go?
In my state of Oregon...we were met with hard skies of smoke and choke. Luckily, I live on the coast, so it didn't hang around very long. But my heart goes out to those who suffered so much longer and lost their homes to the fires. To top that unfortunately, we had natural disasters all around our great country. Thinking we all need a break....a soft distraction...something simple and fun to think about or look forward too. The changing of the season~
One of my son's and his fiancĂ©, took me to a place called Hobby Lobby. Now I know many of you are going "So what?"  Well....I've never been, yet alone have heard of the place, lol..I know, right?? Such an out of touch creature, I am.
I draw much inspiration from such places. Yes, I do buy some things. But mostly, with cell camera in hand, I snap pics of different items thinking in my head " I can do that myself for a fraction of the cost!"  Even though I'm able to get what I want, I always want the best kind of deal no matter what it is. I think it's in my DNA.
I pretty much had to work and pay for my own school clothes growing up. My mother made us some when we were really young. And I thank her for trying...but oh my word-there was no one in the house to guide me with fashion, or to even know how to apply make-up. I did get a few pointers from an older girl who lived down the street. There was that relief in my youth.. ha! When your a young girl, you need guidance for those kinds of things, trust me.
Anyway, I digress...I will share a few examples of what I can do myself in regards to crafty items. I think you will agree with me. Have some fun this season.... find your own creative bone. Save a few bucks for yourself or to donate to help others who have suffered through a tragedy this year.

     I love a classic-vintage-rustic-whimsical look. Wait, there's a name for that...Eclectic!

And I can paint and draw..so something like this will be fun. You could create any picture really.
Go now, and fill your hearts with positive thoughts. Thoughts that make you forget the speed bumps so far this year. Look forward.
Keep Smiling
~PEACE OUT~ my friends

SUMMER BY THE OCEAN 2017..I'M BACK !

Yes, I know, it's been over a year since I blogged last~
My attentions have been rolling down a whole new path. Let me tell you, there were times that I wasn't sure if I was coming or going...
I was taking on way too much, my health fought back in a negative way...and I have had to make some hard decisions. All of this, I'm sure will make for some interesting blogging down the road. But for now...I'm glad to be back, focused and will try and post new at least once a week.
I will say that I still take long walks, hikes and I still do run a little.( although that has slowed down to spare my joints)

Today was no different. I had an abundance of energy and no where to release it. So what do I do? I tie up the Nikes and shuffle off to the beach. My Ipod music as always... blaring in my ears, so I can let my mind go crazy with thoughts. Seems like this is the way I get promptings, knowing's and inspirations to the issues in my life. I usually know how to problem solve my conundrums. But I had a rough night last night....and a rough time this morning. I needed to push myself extremely hard to feel normal. Normal enough to think "my stuff" through.
I stay positive and keep the peace that I have woven around my heart.
I try to stay out of my own way.
I'm working on a new chapter in my life, as some of my past issues have been laid to rest. I've changed my thinking on some things...softened my heart to see things in a sweeter way. Someone new in my life has helped me grow in a special way. I am eternally grateful for this gift. A gift I didn't know I needed to receive.
I guess you would call it a blessing- I am ~
Peace out my friends.
Until next week
Keep Smiling~

The Soul of a Buffalo-Tatanka

My sister and I have always had a deep respect and love for the buffalo. They are a soulful breed that airs to the side of wild intentions. You can see deep into their hearts through the eyes, and see the resilient stance of their ancestors of long ago; having to fight for life across the plains as we humans slaughtered them for food. We wore their coats to keep us warm and many other ways for our benefit. They sustained us for a very long time.
But I am glad I can still travel to 'mid-states', and go see them in herds... being protected... so they can survive us humans. I believe in being a caretaker to our planets living things.
There is just something so strong and majestic, yet soft and peaceful about the Bison, when they are just trying to exist.
My hope is to see some on my trip to various states this June and July. I'm hoping for the opportunity to capture some good photo's with my camera. There are some here in Oregon. But they are raised for food. They are different. It's not the same kind of spirit within them~ but still beautiful nonetheless...
It's like- you can go see horses in captivity..well, just about anywhere...but there are a few small herds that are wild and protected...so far....
There is something different in the hearts of animals that can still roam the earth with a free flowing soul. There is something so different behind their eye's.
Maybe some see it- maybe some don't.... I do~
I hope us as "humans", can keep a part of our "free flowing souls" from completely getting overshadowed by everyday drudgery. We need to remind ourselves that we must live to the fullest of our potentials...meaning keeping our joy and positive-ness in our hearts, so when people see us...really look into our eye's, they strive to want what we have. They can see that we have a purpose behind our eye's. They can see into our souls and know that we can breath outside of this worlds boundaries. To say we are happy-and really mean it!

The last time someone asked you how you were...and you replied "I'm fine"....did you mean it? Or was it the casual thing to say?...Or if you asked someone how they were and they answered...how they really were...did you roll your eye's because you were only asking to be polite or because you were 'roboting' the question and your thinking in your head..."I really don't want to hear this???"
Either way, I think we need to be more like the Tatanka..yes I said buffalo...and stand by each other in strength and fellowship. Protect each other, stand together and support the 'herd'! Our instincts should be as sharp as theirs.
Let us strive to live in peace on this earth together...while we are here.

                                                                    ~ Peace out~

Spring-gagagagagaga!

So happy spring has sprung and summer is just around the corner. Enjoying the nice warm sunshine when it decides to peek out during the day. I have met a nice friend that is interning for Land Management here at the Y. lighthouse in Newport. She is a sweet young lady with a lot of light inside her as well. I'm hoping to do a family walk there this week, with the family and friends that are going to descend upon me, this my birthday week. Yes, that's right...I will now be able to qualify for a senior discount haha..But hey, I'm keeping young and in shape. She is going to give us the private royal tour! I shall blog and post pictures if the weather cooperates!
I'm also getting golf lessons from a PGA tour master as a gift. He will be teaching a lefty too boot! He is happy though, and prefers that I am new to the sport and haven't developed any "bad habits". What he doesn't know is how much of a goofball I really am!!!!!
I can laugh at myself on a dime- it doesn't take much. I can usually make others laugh with me...if they possess a funny bone of any size~ Not sure if I will take pictures of that, as I will be busy trying to look like I'm getting it all down..haha. We shall see.
I am also trying, albeit slowly, to learn old Hebrew. Written and spoken. It's been a desire of mine for decades. What better way to keep my mind sharp and in tact. I am also having a missionary come over and teach me some sign language. He is a doll for taking time out of his work to educate me. I get free lessons, and hopefully I will be given the chance to communicate with anyone who uses sign language down the road. Share some love and smiles.
I think that no matter how hard or trying life can be at times, you need to stay positive. You need to find new ways to improve your life. I like to connect that with finding ways to help other people. Sometimes just sharing a kind smile when someone is having a crap day will do them a world of good. I know it has for me in the past..
I also believe in being a bit of a goofball. Not the annoying kind, but a happy-make you giggle kind..at the appropriate time of course. I would like to keep being that little fun spark in the lives that are put in front of me. Because frankly, it helps keep me in a good mood too!!!!!!!!  WIN-WIN, right?!
So go on out there in your part of the world and make it a fun productive day. For you, for everyone in your path.
Remember:

~PEACE OUT~

Spring is here and so comes 420~

Here I am sitting at my son's table, eating gourmet jelly beans a day after Easter!
How have you all been?
Me, I've had a rough two weeks with being ill and sore from a couple of medical procedures-YIKES! But nevertheless, I'm up and trucking around the Newport area soaking up some much needed sunshine and fresh sea air. I craved jelly beans so badly over the weekend. I even sent one of my kids out to hunt some down for me...to no avail. Funny how you get cravings for something and it  turns into a quest in order to satisfy your weakness. I was bedridden at the time, so I was unable to go "find" any for myself...until today.
I did however enjoy watching my so-far small deck garden begin to grow shoots of various kinds. I've forgotten some of what I planted, so I'm sure it will be a nice surprise when they bloom. My thoughts and actions have been more focused on getting things done for others and getting my vacay all in order for June. I can't wait~
I was thinking about what made me happy in life...some of the little things, like when I was a wee one.....

Playing with the dollhouse my grandmother gave my mother, then passed it down to me. ( I have since  passed it to my 10 year old granddaughter)
Then when I was a young lady, just like most, I guess, I loved talking to my friends on the phone. Making plans to get together and do all kinds of fun adventures. Usually taking off for the weekend to go exploring~
Yes- that is a rotary phone on the end of that cord...haha..I'm dating myself here...'Twas in the mid-eighties.....
Anyhow, here I am, coming up on my birthday again. It's a funny thing that my son's always remember the date: 4/20!!!
For you that are unaware, it's a police code for "weed". Their grandfather was a Seattle police officer and taught them many codes and etc. This is a substance I am truly allergic too~ go figure.
But in my book- whatever it takes to be remembered on my birthday...I can laugh about it! For it truly is the 'fun' and simple things in life that makes us flow in life.

Now, I just love to travel when I can. Therefore, I am taking a month off and running away to different states to see family and friends this summer...and do a little self exploring on my own.
This will be the first time I am off by myself without nobody in tow~ Kind of exhilarating for myself. This trip had started from going to one state and visiting one friend and his wife- to, three states and a whole mess of beautiful wonderful fun family and friend's time. All I can think about now is ...
SWEET!
I can rock this!!!
Enjoy life, enjoy spring. Time to start walking and taking it all in again..
Peace, smile and think only positive things~

Life~

I really like stairs. Stairs of all kinds. That might seem a little bit odd, your thinking. But if you really think about it, you use stair to go "up" to get somewhere new. To make it to another level-right?
My life to me, has been like climbing stairs. I've always seemed to be climbing with some sort of effort to get higher than where I was. Sometimes, I felt like I was pushed down those stairs because I chose the wrong route and there was nothing really to hang on to but a simple rough board that splinters...
I would have to get back up; clean my wounds and find my strength to grab hold of the, 'hopefully' new path and pull harder to go forward again. Have you ever felt like that?
My faith has gotten me through some rough times. The railing that was offered to me was usually at first the plain cold steal bar. It was made to be uncomfortable and cold while I was hanging on tight to get one step closer to the top. If I focused on my journey, and struggled to keep on God's path for myself; the railing slowly became more smooth and sometimes a bit ornate. Quite nice to hold onto, in fact. I felt a little more secure and started to enjoy the climb.

Even so....sometimes, I would get tired out from traipsing up and just stay where I was. I'd ponder what life should have been or could of been had I tried out another avenue...or if there was something just really wrong with the way I was doing things (imagine that-ha-common sense right?)....how exhausting, how unproductive-ugh!
But I suppose, everyone needs a rest now and again. Since I was a single mother, I had no one to lean on and help steady me, or catch me when I fell. A person can obtain a lot of bumps and bruises doing it alone. Unfortunately, I obtained a lot of  physical and emotional scar's 'when' I was married. But I am a strong soul, and strive to be at peace and happy-and forgiveness was the first step to begin my upward journey-the right stairs~
I had to try a few different ways up, a few different styles..to get it right. And that's ok! It's called "growth". The staircase that works for me is one in a sacred place. I had to first learn how to get out of my own way....that was the hard part..HA!
But the way I chose has been very freeing and beautiful ( yes, even when times get rough, I can still find the calm in the storms that I sometimes have to weather through)

It's full of amazing learning and adventures...and promptings of a spiritual kind. The view is bright and the rail is smooth and strong.
I can be kind of a knucklehead sometimes, still, but not like before. I know to stay within the bounds of good kind living. I now believe I'm worth it!!!! So are you!!!!~
I've let go of things that were knocking me down those stairs. I know I have family, friends and 'Him' to hold me up and walk beside me as needed....One step at a time..
What staircase are you walking up these days? Are you enjoying the climb? Or is it time to choose another one...one that suit's you better to where you want to end up being, once you've hit the top?~
I am quite content on the one I have chosen. Maybe we can meet at the top. I will be the one who will be standing there with a big bright smile and my arms wide open~
Peace out~

Ps. Health tip of the week....Eat more at home. Eat real foods...reduce the processed items you put in your mouth. Your body will heal inside out.
Herbs and spices are important too. Helps lower inflammation in your tissues...among other naturally wonderful things.
I will also be gone for a couple weeks-important life need be's~
I shall return ;)

An Alternate Valentines Experience

Ok, so I'm just going to put it out there...ugh Happy Valentines day~ ( February 14 )
But I still stand by my protesting the way one day is celebrated. Love is for all time and every day!!!

I am going to suggest and alternative to Valentines day rituals.
1. Don't spend a lot of money on something that's only going to last one day-instead, make a memory.
2. Find out something about your loved one, that they love to do- but don't really get the time to do because life seems to get in the way....like a hobby
3. Set some time out to take your loved one and do something related to this hobby they enjoy.
For instance: if they enjoy hiking or walking or gem stone hunting, ie: rock hounding. There are places you can research in your area that you can mine your own precious rocks. I've done it, my sister has done it-it is a fabulous way to really appreciate what you find-with your partner! Or take a nice drive to an area and go for a beautiful hike in nature. Pack a homemade picnic lunch for on the way. Both occasions, bring plenty of water. Got to keep your sweetheart hydrated!
Take a walk on the beach and find some lovely shells together to display in your home...make a sand sculpture together...get creative, laugh and play around. Enjoy each other.

Maybe, if you are lucky, you two may find the mother of all gems..
Probably not-ha. But it wouldn't it be nice if you had that kind of excitement in your hearts while enjoying a new memory-a new adventure together??? Excitement is what makes the memory "stick!"

What a real emotional gem looks like:it's made by those who make an effort, a loving, fun time together. It may even go right, when your trying to go left- roll with it and get a laugh out of it...hug your honey and carry on your adventure with a happy positive spirit!
Memories are not an object, it isn't shiny or adds fat to your body..it's after the day, you can think back, smile and get a warm true loving feeling deep down inside. that's love-that's care-that's happiness that lasts a lifetime...not just a day of bought stuff...from the stuffmart!-HA- Old and overdone with no real meaning....

I think one of the most happy times of a valentines, is when someone I loved surprised me with a dinner train excursion. It wound up through the woods and into beautiful country. We were seated across the table from an older couple. The elderly gentleman wore a fedora hat and looked so much like my very beloved grandfather who passed when I was young. It was an amazing time of talking, eating, and enjoying the scenery. It couldn't have been a better train ride. A beautiful memory. Yes, the train tickets did cost money, but all the things that transpired that day were magical and wonderful, and just 'happened'
By the way, have I mentioned....
                                                      I LOVE TRAINS!!!!!

I was seriously thinking of incorporating them in my summer month long trip...BUT, I don't have enough time in between those who want to spend their time with me.
So~ another time I will plan a purely fabulous vacay on some amazing train rides across our country, with a friend in tow to share with me some adventure.

Until then, please rethink what your Valentines day will look like. Don't try and "buy" the person off... do your best to make a great memory~
If you don't have someone you are sweet on, do something fun for yourself- your own memory...don't you think you are worth it? I do~
~PEACE OUT~
I love you

Valentines Day is coming-Bah Humbug!!

Sorry it's been a longtime in between my postings lately. I've been working on a book that needs endless editing-so it feels like. I have a little bit of writers OCD- HA! I need to learn to let it go and let others read and make the choice if they like it or not. Regardless, it just feels good to tell a story..my story.
So, Valentines day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The one "so called" holiday of making a one time effort of telling your loved one how much you care~
Candy, flowers, a night out in a romantic setting???...ugh. I've always felt that if you really love someone, make an effort every chance you get!!!! You don't have to buy things, etc. Just show that "someone" with actions, words of care and love. Smile, hug, laugh with that person. HUG- HUG- HUG!!!!!!
The act of hugging someone you care about is giving that person a physical, non-intrusive connection of care. In just that one small gift from one person to another...will be uplifting and can be very healing in some cases. You might not even be aware of the wonderful gift your actually giving that human soul.
HUG~  care and love. Sure, ok, on Valentines day too~

I have been doing some extra thinking this year. Ha-no, that's a good thing...
I am going to take this blog site a little left .....I am going to emphasize not only tuning into nature and finding the fun and sometimes funny things in life, but to also encourage health and wellbeing of body and soul. I think it's time to really talk about trying to get worldly things out of our main focus, find inner peace and happiness that actually speaks to your soul...the kind of happiness that lasts...
and not just gives short term satisfaction /gratification.
Also, to start thinking more about the toxins we are ingesting. You ever wonder why there are so many exploding cases of cancer and other health issues in our lives?? I'm sure you've figured it out by now. I just want to embrace and share my journey of trying to clean up as many chemicals, etc. out of my diet.
Let's face it-it's impossible to do it 100%. But let me tell you, from when I really started to work on this about 5 years ago...I feel so much better and my physical and spiritual being has been uplifted in many positive ways.
I do have a strong faith in God and Jesus as my Savior and the Holy Spirit inside-guiding me. ( I am working on the listening part, as I am only human and prone to mistakes...ugh )
You can have faith, belong to a different religion, not really have a religion, or what have you...I care so much about you as my neighbor of earth. You matter. I love when we can connect through blogging. I thank you for being here with me and letting me share my thoughts and one sided banter!
I will start posting again once a week. I hope you will G-1 any posts you like. That gives me an idea what you care about. Drop me a comment. (private or public) it's all good.
Sit back and enjoy~
        Until next week,
                      PEACE OUT~

Tip of the week- HYDRATE with water...pure clean water! The most important thing to put into your bodies all day, every day!

Weathering the Winter Blues

I'm figuring that there is about 2 more months of real winter-like weather here on the coast. About 2 weeks into this cold freezing, wet, dreary weather....I am so over it. I want my sunshine back!!! I want the rays of sunshine to gently reach through my window, early in the morning and kiss my face awake. I want to be able to be warm and refreshed, instead of hurriedly crawl out from under my blankets, trying to find my slippers and the thermostat; so I can get warmer and feel like starting my day. But no...I have to wait.

I do love the fog, and I do love going out for nature walks, and I do love to feed the tiny sparrows and chickadees on my deck that come to find an easy meal. I fight sometimes to find things to feel uplifted in my day....
Some people fight with winter depression. I used too- a few decades ago, but through my faith, I was healed from that. But I can still feel ....well BLAH! It doesn't last long. The trick is to keep moving and take my focus off any negative feelings.
I've decided that between now and my next birthday in April, I am going to tone my body a bit more to get as healthy as I can. ( yoga..ouch-ha, and my exercise bike and a little weight training)
I plan on doing some in country traveling this summer. I've hooked up with some family and friends to make it a sweet personal fun time for me. I used to go on exploring weekend vacations with my kids when they were young. We would just load up essentials and just pick someone to decide which direction we were going to drive and see where it would take us. We would always try new roads and places.
I intend on making this a vacation to do some new, out of state exploring. Some things are planned....something's I'm going to leave up to wherever the day takes me.
"AN ADVENTURE"!!!!!
-that's what my summer is going to be.
Life is an adventure to some extreme...but this one I'm taking....this time, will be on my own. This will be the first time in my crazy upside-down life, that I will be going on by myself! I will be taking no stragglers with me! -Ha.
This way, I will have the opportunity to adjust my schedule and even extend any part of it if I so desire. This will be my chance to fly and be free for a while. For when I get back home, I will be tightening up my bootstraps and buckling down to get back to work and figure out where my path wants me to plant roots-for once in my life....I'm determined to become a tree and grow in one place. Not sure where that place will be now. Maybe right here in Newport, maybe in a different part of Oregon or a different state??!!  It's not for me to know at this time. It's for me to discover.... over this year or two. It's a "knowing" I have. It's part of my life's adventure. Sweet for me!
I also decided that before my birthday, I'm purging clutter from my home. Not useless stuff, just earthly stuff that I have no more need for. Someone else can benefit from it. I want to continue my life- light in all aspects. I want to refocus on what really matters in life...people.
People, like family, friends and people whom God puts in my path. How much fun and love and care can we share. I want to make as many people as I can feel better...smile...hug...laugh...loved....and just get a good ole deep cleansing breath after spending time with each other feeling the release peace.
Think about how you want your "rest of your life" to be. If your truly not happy where your at -change it-do something different for your betterment. Have something you truly want to look forward too. Hard work done with a happy and positive heart will get you blessings you never thought obtainable...think about it...are you really truly happy with your life? If not, what's missing? Don't be afraid to live. Think, pray, ponder, get out of your own way. Life is so much more than "weathering the blues"..
Until then, have a little laugh- Love those minion goofballs
All in good fun~
~Peace out~

Christmas is close

I'm happy to say, I am all done with my Christmas shopping and wrapping of said presents! I couldn't be happier. I hit the best deals for the best stuff so I won't have the pain of credit remorse. Nothing is more unsettling that putting yourself in debt to make others happy...basically for a day~ It just smart, common sense to go with a budget, look for sales, take coupons to the sales and purchase the things your family and friends really like and it doesn't hurt at the check stand!!! I think no one want's to hit the new year with crying wallets!!
I made sure that this year, I gave myself the blessing of paying off a couple of small debts. It felt liberating. Of course I really don't like to go into debt for anything, but sometimes life throws you a hardball, and reluctantly, you have to concede. But taking responsibility to paying those speed bumps off as fast as you can, is a gift to yourself. It's not a 'fun' thing-not so much a 'simple' thing.. but a 'wise' thing. And if you can give yourself some stress free by doing so-.....you can be more relaxed and can enjoy yourself better. Not to mention, it can open things up so your able to help others-if need be.
That in itself, is beautiful. Just make sure when you do that, you don't want something in return. Just do it out of love. No strings attached~

Love is the reason for the season~

My love includes Jesus Christ. He is the reason we celebrate Christmas in the first place. Not all believe or celebrate Christmas. Everyone is free to make their own choice ( whether openly or in silence-as I know some in other countries or circumstances, have to be careful)
But everyone, no matter what you believe- deserves love in their life. The life-blood of existing.
This Christmas season, I wish you all- LOVE
                                                                      JOY
                                                                           LAUGHTER
                                                                                              and a massive amount of
                                                                                                    PEACE~

Weather and Rough Days

So...where I live, it's cold, rainy, sometimes very stormy with torrential rains and very high winds. I do so love it. I love the weather. Although I have to make my way inland tomorrow and that means I have to drive over a small mountain pass, forest-like roadways and near flooding waters. But so far, the news reports the road I need to take is clear. Bad news is ( if your driving in it), there is another big storm that's going to hit tonight.
I do love hearing the wind blowing against my window and the rains hitting hard as it flies sideways from the velocity of the wind. It's kind of soothing for me while in my bed. Lulling me slowly to sleep, like a sort of "white noise" but in the more nature type sense. That was a mouthful~
I had a very long day today, as many of you can relate too. Nothing is better than to be able to come home and make some homemade soup to snuggle down with. I usually sit on my couch and hug the bowl with my hands; after I've changed into something soft and comfortable.
It's ultra nice to wrap a soft warm blanket around my shoulders and lap while indulging in the soothing warmth of my organic soup as it slides down my throat. Having the room bathed in a warm soft lighting with my Christmas tree lights on...I can sit and just let the day drip out of my brain. If you are noticing that I'm using the word "warm" a lot...that's because there is no other way of explaining just the right sensation other than calling it warm~
It's a very wonderful word indeed for this time of year. I hope your staying warm and safe. I hope you fill your body with less processed food and take time out in the kitchen by yourself or with a loved one and fix something nutritious and yummy. Keep it simple and fun.
Now go snuggle under a favorite  ( must be soft to get the best feeling) blanket and read a good book, watch a sweet, or funny movie, whatever puts a smile on your lips and a song in your heart and wash the day away if need be.....
The point is, be comfy- comfy- comfy! RELAX~

Thanksgiving Blessings

It's about that time again for us here in my humble abode. I really didn't feel like doing the whole "big dinner" this year. Kind of thought I would take the holiday's slow and easy. I'm usually the one that pulls all the family together and organizes a day full of fun, warmth, laughter and a whole lot of good old home made food. Now that my sons are all grown up and have lives of their own...except for the part that none of them have met or married...hint- hint ...ha; I seem to be 'it' for the cooking! I suppose I do feel good about that part. And if your wondering, yes, I did teach them how to cook. They just love my cooking~
So I conceded~  ooooooooooook then!!! (I say with a deep breath and a smile)
So once again, I will pull out the antique china that I inherited from my beautiful colorful grandmother Spangle that passed when I was 16. I still hold her in my heart. ( Grandma, if you hear me, thanks for all the love and joy you took showing me how to keep a neat home and fill the house with wonderful smells of good learned home cooking-I love you dearly- tell my sister I love her too-'till we meet again in the hereafter-we will be a unique light in heaven! Ha!)
I will make my homemade cinnamon rolls ( my other gma's recipe) that my family loves so much each holiday. I will distribute them, warm and tasty the evening before. I will bake pies and other deserts the night before. I will chop and slice anything that's needing, to prep for the morning before. I will do what I can so I have minimal things to do on thanksgiving day....Because...spending as much time with the ones I love, family and friends is what I am most thankful for. I do not want to become so busy that the day passes me by.
When my day is done and all have gone home... I will collapse on my bed...exhausted, happy, glad the work is done, the dishes washed and put away and counters wiped..  and I am left with a new sweet memory in my head. Happy I gave my loved ones a warm memory and happy tummy's.
I do these things because I have a love in my heart for those close to me. There is nothing more important to me than love. I love the people in my life hard, and I hope, deeply, they will show love for me too. It's the best gift I have or ever will get!!!!
It's also important to do things for others in your life too. Do it with a good heart. Do it without needing to be recognized or thanked.. Turn what your doing away from 'yourself' and make it totally about 'them'.  Those are truly Treasures to be had that can never be taken away.

My youngest son reminded me of one of the things I did quite a few years ago. Two of my young sons and I were spending a fun day in downtown Portland. Something we did ever so often. ( I still do) There was a homeless lady sitting up against the wall with no shoes on. I asked her what size she wore and went into a shoe store close by and bought her a pair for her feet. She was thankful-she was sweet. I could afford it and I couldn't let someone go without a basic need. I didn't do it for anyone but her. That's it. No big deal!! And we went along with our day. It was a good day with my kids. I had forgotten this over the years. To me, it was just a simple kindness. Many good people subscribe to this way of life. My youngest son, in conversing with me a few days ago brought it up. He said, "mom, what you did was so amazing to me, it just inspired me so much to be a good and caring person"~ And he is a beautiful young man-a glorious work in progress-as we all are. It dawned on me, that when I was outwardly kind-empathetic, happy and giving, when the situation is put in front of me..my kids were watching and learning how to make this world a little more sweeter. That, I found out, was a perfect blessing- my treasure- I had not been aware of until then.
How many blessings have you shared with others? I bet many more than your aware of.
Smile
Be glad
If your alone this holiday and feeling sad. Don't be. I'm here. Leave me a pm., or a comment. Everyone matters.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING~

PEACE~

Baby it's Cold Outside! It's Full Fall Time~

What does one do when cabin fever sets in? On my day off I was mentally twisting in my home, feeling a bit melancholy, kind of blue. We had just gone through a two day storm as we tend to get here in the off season. I had not gone on a regular walk/run in such a long time. I knew the answer to my feeling 'blah' was to bolt out the door with my Ipod blaring my mood enhancing music in through my mutant ninja turtle earbuds! Yep, you heard that right! Stepping outside of my front door I felt the chill in the air. Although it stopped raining, the ground was wet and the fog was lingering in dotted areas. I set off...crossing Hwy 101 into the neighborhood where many take walks in the summertime. But now- oooh like the old song says, "baby it's cold outside" !

I walked and sprinted through my normal rounds, through the neighborhood, I decided to extend my exercising to my second route. ( I have a few routes I go on to mix it up-to not get bored) I found that there were areas on my path that were a bit flooded over. Instead of getting discouraged or frustrated enough to turn around and head back; I squatted down and kept silent. I immersed my sense of vision, hearing and smell to my surroundings. I breathed in the damp woodsy aromas permeating the moss covered brush and trees. I heard the running.. the trickling of the water that rushed over the asphalt covered path- down into the muddy grass and over the hillside into a small creek that runs parallel to the path. Many tiny birds were singing...chirping to each other, possibly taking about the strange human crouching on the walkway being still... who knows...right?!
-eh, it made me smile anyways~

I stepped around the deep part of the water, finding a way to hop around without getting my shoes wet. It was way to chilly to be walking around in wet shoes!!! Brrr. No thank you~
I made my way down those dripping wet stairs, being carful not to slip on the green moss slim that covered parts of them. I made my way to the beach...and to my surprise...I had the whole beach to myself! No one else dared to go out and breath in the salty crisp air as I had. Such a serene feeling it was. So beautiful, so "Namaste"...you honestly cannot stay down in the dumps with all your senses being forced alive like this. The pounding of the waves, white crested tops as they arose from the deep sea- curling and crashing down-pushing the water to the shore. Many seagulls were bathing in the waves...just as calm as can be in all the power of the waters swirling around them. It was a sight to see.
I spent some time just enjoying my music as I put my earbuds back in my ears. I walked bent over in my special spots looking for agates and other pretty rocks. ( I know where all the good places are! Ha!!) Sea treasures~
I spent much more time just sitting on logs and watching the clouds roll by and the gulls play and just not thinking about my life, my stresses my responsibilities...I just meditated on "being where I was in the moment"
 I let myself be calm.
 I let myself be still.
 I let myself be 'ok'.
I needed that-everyone needs that at times.
On my way home, the sun tried to come out-it kept peeking through the billowy clouds. I was feeling a bit more positive about my blessings instead of feeling like burying my head under my pillow in bed to try and make my day go away. I think cloud watching is a good way to 'light up' some of those good old endorphins in your brain. Natures feel-good prescription! God's pharmacy. Brings only wonderful side-effects. The cost is free-just takes a little energy to go outside and look up and around.

Even though the Fall season is well under way, (some may be experiencing winter-like weather, some even have a bit of warm weather still, ugh, poor you) I think everyone has rough days to themselves. Force yourself to go out, if you can...soak up some natural environment. Everyone, at least, can go out and look up. there is sky-sky is just about infinite...past it is the universe. Ponder and marvel at that.
Peace be with you, remember to stay warm and healthy.

Paris, France-Part of our Earthly Family

We are so heartbroken for all of those who lost their lives; and the ones who were hurt in Fridays horrific bombings and shootings in Paris. There has been senseless acts of violence in many different places in the world. It brings sadness to us all. I can't even fathom why anyone thinks it's ok to do such evil and destructive things to other human beings. These individuals ( and groups) are cowardly and narcissitic in the most unbelievable corrupt satanistic way! There is no sugar coating this kind of violence.
So this is to our brothers and sisters in Paris, France. I also extend this to all of those who have gone through and some who witnessed acts of terrorism.

There are so many historical, artistic and beautiful things in Paris. I have always wanted the chance to go spend the day at the Louvre. I am an amateur artist myself. I love to draw and especially paint. I love the renaissance era, etc. I have a distinct love for architecture. I find simple and complex beauty in many things. Paris has a foot up on fascinating places to explore~ You know the people have a special appreciation for this kind of existence. I think, considering all that they have gone through in their history, they are a strong, compassionate with a grand love of life-kind of people.

I believe, deep in my heart, that our world is our home.( not just the little bit of land we settle on)
I believe we are all brothers and sisters, we are all human beings that need love, peace and a caring hand towards each other-NO MATTER where we are located geographically!!!
Unfortunately, there is evil that lurks in our world, and sadly some weak humans gullibly succumb to it's ugly enticements. These people need our prayers in a strong sense...hear me out...
I feel "They" need to get it in their brains that 'what they "think..." they are doing- is truly horrible and wrong and are deceptively misled!
Our earth was given to us to take care of. The people of this earth are precious. At times like these, it just makes the rest of us love more, help each other more, and grow an ever increasing compassion for our neighbors, near and far. It brings to light what really matters. Life, Family, Friendships, real loving faith. Faith doesn't hurt, harm or tear apart. It helps, it's charity, love, compassionate, empathetic, happy and full of hope and joy. These are things that don't cost a dime. It takes a "Heart" !!
How wonderful and beautiful are our fellow earthly family member's that strive to live in peace, love and harmony.
I am blessed to be one amongst you.
~PEACE~
...for the love that's all good...

I'm in the Christmas frame of mind-Help!

It's not even December yet-Heaven HELP ME! Hahaha~
We haven't experienced a first snow ( if you live in a seasonal area), we haven't had Thanksgiving either! But this morning, when I awoke from my Tuesday night slumber...I suddenly got the "Christmas frame of mind"-syndrome!!! I think I am out of my gourd feeling so warm and magically joyous so early. Wanting to smell peppermint and cinnamon coated pinecones...smelling warm baked goods and a fir tree; decorating that tree in my living room. Putting up fun festive decorations...hanging frosted snowflakes from the ceiling over my dining table. And then there is this fat jolly man, who is a made up character of wonderment in our imaginations.....tah-dahhhhh
Announcing, waaaayyyyyy too early in the season,  vintage cardboard Santa Claus! Ha! Or should I say HO!
Well, there he is, in all his pre-holiday glory, in a shop where the Christmas displays and decorations are set up right on cue....November 1st!!!! Ugh~ It seems to come earlier and earlier each year. And usually I get a little annoyed at the rushed holidays. Hmmm.
But something almost magical turned on, deep, deep inside of me over night. And I must admit, I'm really loving it. Thinking about all the lights, sights and smells that come during this winter season. The displays in the neighboring yards and people seem to be a little more happier and kind to each other during this time of year.
My sister really love the nutcrackers...(as I sit here remembering past times)
I used to take my sons to he nutcracker suite ballet every year in Seattle, Washington. We would get all dressed up, go out to eat at a nice restaurant and go hit the live show-when they were young. They grew up... and out of wanting to go.. (major bummer)but I still have fond happy memories...
I am not really into the gift giving aspect of Christmas (but I still do it for friends and loved ones without over-doing it) I am all about the warm fuzzies~
 The love and the fun~
The helping others out with a smile-spreading some joy and laughter~
The remembering of the real reason of the season~
 My main joy-my Savior.
(Whether you believe or not...I do. He poured out so much love on us, why would you turn your back on that??? I don't know...pondering, pondering...)
Just be full of love-charity during this holiday season.
It's a free gift we can all give, right?! It cost nothing but a small bit of time on our parts.
I challenge you- to see how many people you can cause to smile or giggle out of giving a kind word, or a small kind deed for someone in need, or a funny face or positive type tease. Or just shooting a sweet happy smile towards someone who has a grumpy or sour look on their face...just so you can be the 3 second bright spot in their daunting day.
What do you say? Are you up for the challenge?
Spread the holiday magic around, starting now! Why wait until Christmas...
Peace out~ my rays of earthly happy magic- this winter

Work vs Retirement

Some of you know that I consider myself semi-retired. What that means for me is that I was well enough to let go of the 9-5 typical work days. I did so partly to help take care of my terminally ill sister- partly to work on my own health-last, to pursue my own life work interests. I had money put aside for this, plus I have a healthy retirement set up for myself.
I have been doing home rehabing jobs for flips and helping homeowners with renovations. It is something my father and a few male friends in my life taught me, and I excelled at. A lot of hard work goes into doing house rehabing.. But I love to be creative in many forms. I love to make nice things out of broken down worn stuff.
~And it doesn't hurt having a big ole paycheck in the end!!!!!
I get tired and achy...but it's a satisfying and good feeling to go to bed at night with. My previous career was more of a brain power type job (social worker) and I did love it. After many years you can get mentally burnt out though-The only drawback for me...
As I was crawling up on my son's roof a couple day's ago, to clean up the branches and debri and clean out the gutters..you see he lives in the woods and the pine needles are fierce.
Nature, in all it's beauty can make an awful mess for us human inhabitants!..I was deeply thinking that it was time for me to "retire" this part of my 'semi-retirement'. Ha..sounds funny when I say this. I was just thinking that I don't want to fall off the roof...ugh..feel my muscles scream at me as I grow older. I'll save my exercising to my walks/sprints and yoga, etc. ( happy thoughts)
It's time for me to keep exercising my mind and keep it sharp. I will continue to write books and whatever I aspire too. I plan on finding my way back to a social work job (still pondering what that area that will be- thinking helping youth through the court systems) I will probably still inventory/sell , through a city shop- designer clothing. But I do believe I have climbed my last ladder to the rooftop and ripped up my last floor, etc. for profit anyhow~
So...I will say goodbye to that part of my life. It has enriched me greatly and I am blessed because of it.
If you take anything away from this post is- don't be afraid to "retire" something in your life that has run it's course. There are more things to explore..to grow yourself on. Give yourself a well thought out change. It can keep your life happier and more fulfilling.
Something to "ponderize"
Peace out~

Portland, Oregon in the Holiday Seasons

While sitting behind a computer part of the day, working, getting eye strain and wanting to be finished...my mind wandered to the stormy we...
